Sam Gilbert has had a fascination with health and fitness from an early age.  He has been practicing Kyokushin/Shinkyokushin karate for over 2 decades and during that time has won multiple Australian and Japanese regional championships, culminating in his 4th place at the 2009 World Cup.

Through this interest in competition and in an attempt to improve his own sporting performance Sam has made a thorough study of various strength and conditioning methods.

After earning a bachelor of physiotherapy from La Trobe University in Australia, Sam has worked as a clinical physiotherapist and ergonomic consultant for the past 6 years. After years of seeing common exercise habits and movement patterns lead to injury Sam joined Tokyo Fitness as a personal trainer to try and address these issues from the back end and correct these common faults.
